Lumbar Stenosis

I am a very healthy and was a very active 74 year old male who was diagnosed with advanced lumbar stenosis almost two years ago. In December of last year I had major surgery [7 hours] where my lumber joints 5-3 were fused [plates, screws, coral, bone removal, etc]
Recovery was normal for 8 weeks and then right severe right side pain returned, mostly right hip and right foot. Righr foot has lost some function ans is some 30 % numb, and increasing. I use crutches and a wheel chair to control pain, but by midday I am forced to go to bed for a couple of hours.
I can take about six steps without undue pain in the morning, but must go
to the crutches right away. What can I do to stop or lesson the pain? It has been suggested that I have the damaged nerve severed. Will this reduce pain and what are the consequences? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
