There are 2 stretches for the piriformis muscle that I've found useful:
#1 Lie on your back bring with your legs bent, feet drawn up near your butt.
Cross the leg on the side to be stretched over the other leg, resting the ankle
of the leg to be stretched midway up the thigh of the leg with the foot still
on the ground. Push the knee of the leg to be stretched away from you until
your arm is straight. If you can, grab the shin of the other leg and pull it
up off the floor toward you, still pushing on the other side.
#2. Place yourself prone on the floor or ground, raised up on your arms, like
the end of a push up. Bring your left knee up so that it is under your right
shoulder. Bring the foot of that leg out to the side. Lower yourself to
stretch the hip muscles. Repeat on the other side.
Similar exercises are available at the row2k site, or you can find a lot of PT
sites by doing a Yahoo search on piriformis syndrome.
If these don't work and the greatest symptom is hip pain, you maybe able to get
some quick relief relief with a localized steroid/lidocaine injection from your
friendly local orthopod/sports medicine doc. Good luck.
