piriformis exercise - this one works the best for me

Carefull! Was this an injury or just something that crept in? Mine was a
flexibility issue.

I injured my left one quite badly after hopping on a bike with a low saddle
and was off the bike for two months! I went to a number of massage
therapists, while probably qualified simply didn't understand *why* it
happened and were only treating the symptom. I finally went to a
chiropractor who discovered my hips were out of alignment, adjusted them and
I was out riding that afternoon. Granted, I had keep stretching using the
exercises he prescribed but he solved the problem of why it was spasming so
much. He has also saved my bacon on a few other occasions and cannot
reccommend them high enough. Find a good one and listen to what they say.

This one works the best for me:
Lie on your back near an opened door jam. Scoot your butt 6 - 12" fromt the
jam and put your left leg against the jam at 90 degrees (or so). Now cross
your right leg over so your right ankle is on your left knee. Relax your
back and try to get your tailbone on the floor. You should feel it. Next
move your left knee to the left (let it drop slowly) which should stretch it
a little differently. Switch legs.
