Thanks
I really appreciate your reponses.
Reason I asked, was that I was given similar exercises i.e slow wall squats,
slow one leg squats, somesort of static pushing against a solid object with
a bent leg (I know, this one's hard to describe), to help recruit muscles in
my glutes and similar imbalances in my adductors and vastus medialis (I
think it was this one, definitely vastus something), and a weird lying on
the stomach with one leg bent, and then trying to lift bent leg, using
glutes only ... I still can't do this. I have to REALLY focus, just to
contract the right muscles.
Instability in the pelvic area, was supposed to be causing some of my back
problem (at the time I was told, I stood like a pregnant woman, due to the
muscle imbalances!). Some degree of neurological intervention was
considered, and I was put on traction for a while. However I think the
physio, was really trying to address my immediate discomfort, and treatment
was never fully taken to completion ... he gave up( as did three before!),
as the symptons eased after the sessions, but came back within a few days.
It was really only when I saw an osteopath, who did soft tissue massage, and
straightened my spine, that a lot of the symptons have eased. However I am
still aware of muscle imbalances, and the osteo did mention, that my spine
does not curve in the lumbar region, as it normally should. I've been told
to do 'cat' stretches, and rotations. Rotations I find almost impossible,
due to lack of mobility in this area.
I look forward to your website and will certainly consider a course of
NSAIDs for a short period of time (I seeing a doctor tomorrow and will
discuss this with him/her).
Omega-3 fatty acids - I assume this would be the flax oil?
Does swimming help. It was suggested to me, and also just walking in waist
deep water to strengthen the lower back? (I'm not sure if it's strength I
really need, if it's lack of mobility that's the main problem?).
The last thing I'd want is arthritis in the spine!
Many thanks
Jay
