In Reply to: Piriformis syndrome is an often misdiagnosed cause of sciatica, leg, or buttock pain, and disability. posted by John M. Williams
I am a male with ms54 years old about 150 #skin and bones on my buttox also
have no voluntary movement below my shoulders. I started with a small pain
on my left buttox about four years ago. Only had a emg and proper diagnosis
recently my right buttox is starting to become involved also. I sleep on my
back only position I can tolerate for the eight hours my caregiver sleeps. I
Presently sleep on a low air loss mattress it is fairly comfortable except
it keeps constant pressure on my ischials and sciatic nerve. I also have an
alternating air pressure mattress which I placed over the low air loss
mattress. The alternating air pressure mattress puts pressure on my buttox
then takes it off it cycles every three minutes. Never-the-less my
condition continues to deteriorate. What was a very localized throbbing in
my left buttox is now becoming full blown sciatica with pins needles and
electrical shocks.
What I would li I had a lumbar mri which was clear I also had a pelvic mri and am waiting results. I am concerned I may have damaged my ischial tuberosity or have piriformis syndrome caused by long periods sitting in my wheelchair I have a roho cushion but I don't think that helps enough. Are you aware of others in my position? What can be time?
