I am a 20 year student/athlete at the United States Naval Academy. A month ago I under went a double lumbar laminectomy on my L3/L4/L5. I am only a young age of 20 and had been leading a very active life. I have been enlisted in the military for 2 years and now play LaCrosse for the Naval Academy. Unfortunantly this is also how I hurt my back. The doctors have told me that I can never play sports again. I am obsessed with athletics and was active in multiple sports not to mention general fitness. Now the doctors are telling me that I can't even run anymore. They say that at my young age continuing my active life would cause my back to deteriorate even more. I am presently still recovering from the operation but am wondering to what extent will I be limited to working out next week. Is it true that I can never run again? What are the possible affects of continuing sports and intensive excersise? If anybody has any information I would greately appreciate it. Has anybody had this surgery at such a young age? If so what have you expierenced? Again responses are more than welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.
