I am not a cyclist, but race a sailboat. Racing season will start soon and I am very concerned. I have been diagnosed by a chiropractor as having a bulging disc. My X-ray report (have not had an MRI) said there was only some mild degeneration. The numbness and pain in my foot and lower back pain was telling me something different. I went through 6 weeks of PT. It helped, but as soon as I would do anything physical, symptoms would reappear. The chiropractor I am seeing looked at the x-ray, explained that I have a bulging disc, and told me that the disc will heal over time (3 to 6 months). His adjustments to my spine have helped restore the strength to my upper body and this has taken much of the pressure off my back. In just a few visits I'm doing much better. Surgery for me will be a last resort. Good Luck.
