recuperation time after back surgery

Posted by Sandy Asher

In Reply to: Running after back surgery posted by Doug Landmann

I wasn't given details about the time after removing
my L5 disc, in fact I was hoping for a fax and info
exactly about the surgery, but I"m told it will take
a couple of weeks for me to know exactly what was
done. The doctor told me I should be able to walk
and drive. Well surgery was last Thurs. at Union
Memorial, Balt. That night was bad, and they dis-
charged me the next day without checking anything.
It is just 5 days later, still taking pain pills,
having trouble getting up and down, turning in bed
walking is okay, but no way could I get in and out
of a car to drive. I think they should have given
me more info as to the after effects. I would like
to know what I am to expect from here, as to getting
back to my old self. I am in good shape, do tennis
golf, hiking, you name it. I've had the trouble
since Oct. dealt with MRI, physical therapy, after
nothing helped, went for the surgery. Any info would
be great......I printed yout Outcome Mangement, 10
pages, they are super. Thanks for any help,
