Excercising and identifying through ultrasound the transverse abdominal, is part of the Back Clinic therapy at the physio dept. at the Mater Hospital QLD Aust. This programme was based on new research done a few years ago. I find this to be a great help with my prolapsed disc condition but unless the muscle is identified with the ultrasound first, you can't be sure you're doing the correct thing. This strenthens the area around the spine and gives it greater support so there is less pressure on the disc. Maybe some other hospitals have a similar programme.
