I have had sciatica on and off for 17 years. In January I went to the chiropractor to get rid of the numbness in the back of my leg when driving. Usually, 2 -3 adjustments are all I need and I'm as good as new. This time the pain started to radiate down my leg to my toes. I asked my doctor for Vioxx and he sent me to an orthopedist for evaluation. I was sent for physical therapy which I have been going to for 6 weeks. I am worse than ever. They told me that it was piriformis syndrome. They have used sonograms, heat, ice, electo stimulation and I still haven't gotten better. Last week they gave me an iontophoresis treatment and I was in agony. Heat radiated down my butt and leg for three days. I had to keep icing it. The heat is gone but now my butt is in a total spasm. I have been heating, icing, stretching. No relief. Now it is affecting my sleep - no matter which way I turn, it pulls and causes pain. Even the Vioxx that I am been taking for a week is not helping. I have a physical therapy appointment tonight and a chiropractor appointment tomorrow. Does anyone know of something else I can try? I am desperate for some relief.
