I was diagnosed first with sciatica, then with Sacro-iliac
joint problems and put into a SI joint study by my physical
therapist. Therapy worked, but my pain returned when I'd do
routine things like gardening or bathing my dog. It had
gotten all the way down into my foot again and was affecting
my gait when I finally returned to my doctor. I told him I
thought I had Piriformis syndrome, but he sent me for
another scan. Today he confirmed that I have Piriformis
syndrome, not a disc problem. He mentioned this surgery where
they cut the Piriformis muscle, but he's reluctant to do it,
because they have to move all the major butt muscles aside
to get to it. I'd be too worried about weakening this area
further, anyway. Part of my PT had been to stabilize my pelvis.
Please tell me how the Piriformis block worked for you and
what is involved. I'm praying you got some relief! I KNOW!
I'm going to post this on the site as well, but I wanted to make sure you got this.
One thing that has really worked to give me temporary relief has been massage in the area followed by ice. Your PT can teach you how to do this for yourself.
