Two and one-half months ago, I was diagnosed with two herniated
discs. However, the pain was the sciatic nerve down my leg, with
complete numbness of my leg and foot. I am almost 39, had been
physically active until approx. one year ago, and have a job where
I sit 7 hours a day, then spend 2-3 hours in a car. Two weeks
ago, I had microendoscopis disectomy and have relief from the numbness
in my leg and foot, but still shooting pain up and down my leg.
After reading more about piriformis muscle syndrome, and asking
a physical therapist about it, she agrees that this sounds like
what I have. She suggests swimming and physical therapy. I've
read about stretching and using a tennis ball, but what other
things can I do, short of surgery? I am too young and too active
to deal with this the rest of my life!
